PESHAWAR: In the last month, city traffic police in Peshawar have fined 29,370 people for breaching the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) and not wearing a face mask.

According to a report released here, the traffic police were working to raise public consciousness about Covid-19, and officers were educating the public and implementing restrictions in all areas of the region. During compliance and safety campaigns, traffic cops issued face masks to the public, according to the study.

 

According to the paper, violators of the SOPs were being prosecuted by the provincial capital's traffic police and district administration. Both agencies were working together to ensure that people wore face masks at all public transportation stops, according to the statement.

Abbas Majeed Marwat, SSP traffic, informed Dawn that they were ensuring that the Covid SOPs were followed.

 

“Around 30,000 people were fined for violating the SOPs in the last month,” he added, adding that police awareness and education teams were now handing out face masks to passengers. He urged people to follow the SOPs and warned that those who did not would face consequences.

The district administration in Bajaur shut down scores of shops in various bazaars on Saturday for breaking the lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the region.

 

The administration has closed a number of shops in Khar, Inayat Kallay, and Sadiqabad, according to a statement released here, after the vendors refused to obey the administration's order to close their shops two days a week on Fridays and Saturdays.

 

On Saturday, the district administration in Tank city sealed three plazas for violating Covid SOPs, according to our Lakki Marwat correspondent.

In this regard, deputy commissioner Kabir Afridi went to bazaars and markets to see if merchants were implementing the weekly lockout. He also went to the sasta bazaar and requested the merchants to support the buyers.
