Sri Lanka's PTA supports portable mobile numbers
ISLAMABAD:
The Pakis-tan Telecoms Auditorium (PTA) has expanded training and technical
assistance for a smooth introduction of Mobile Numerum Portability (MNP)
throughout the country to the Telecom-mu-nica-tions Regulatory Commis-sion of
Sri Lanka.
The regulatory authority in Sri Lanka is scheduled to
launch MNP for mobile telephony users in the region.
Pakistan is South Asia's first country to have
implemented this smartphone user service in 2007.
The MNP is a programme that allows a customer to
change his network without modifying his or her number.
The MNP has been exerting pressure on mobile operators
in Pakistan to increase their service and has urged them to enhance their
service quality.
Smooth transition calls must also be ensured for the
MNP's main technological problem.
